When rebellious English schoolboy Nigel Green leaves school in the summer of 1967, all he wants to do is play music. So he joins a band called Motorbird and moves up to London to pursue a life of sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. They become a tight and polished touring unit, garnering interest from record company executives and bringing in enough cash to live the dream. But being part of a band turns out to be more complicated than just plugging into an amplifier and pumping out grooves for an adoring audience. Nigel faces the inevitable interpersonal issues of being attached to three other young musicians, each with their own needs. And then there’s the business side of music, the dark side to this life that’s supposed to be all about velvet bellbottoms, great songs, and peace and love.
From the quiet confines of a strict boarding school, to the stage of the legendary Marquee Club in Soho, writer Jeremy Sagar takes the reader on a long and colourful trip through England in the Swinging Sixties, all through the often glazed eyes of the talented, ambitious, yet somewhat naive Nigel.
